KNITTING FOR PEACE

This 2008 holiday season, Ewe and Me Fiber Studio will be hosting our latest charity knitting project for Hesed House in Aurora, Illinois. Hesed House provides services to poor and homeless persons. We are asking all interested knitters and crocheters to help make hats and mittens. We have narrowed it down to these two items in order to give donors enough time to finish their projects. These items can be made to fit men, women, and children. Please make sure they are washable. All donations can be dropped off at Ewe and Me, located at 37 S. main St. in downtown Sandwich. Any time between Thursday, October 9 and Friday, December 19. We will also accept donations of blankets and toiletries.

If you have any questions or need more information:

Welcome Fall!

What great weather for knitting! It's time to work on your projects for the holidays. Our fall shipments have been arriving daily. We recieved more 100% camel from Mongolia. This shipment included white camel. The white camel is regarded as rare, so I'm very pleased to have recieved any amount. Also a dark green (wasabi). Very stylish. The Plymouth Boku that was closed out this summer, has been replaced by Wisdom Poems. Also a Noro wannabe! Poems is 100% feltable wool, and very soft! You'll love it! I can't seem to keep sock yarn in sock these days! I've introduced Farmhouse Yarns, Fannie's Fingering and it's been a big hit! Much more of that to follow. And finally the Eweknitters Sock Club is under way! The sock club is now Bi-Monthly but just as exciting. If you're interested in the sock club but you don't yet knit socks, then think about taking a class. We always seem to have a sock class going. Check-out our class schedule and get yourself ready to do some power knitting! There are still a few sale items hanging around waiting for just the right knitter or crocheter to take them home. So stop on by!

Happy knitting!

Greetings knitters and crocheters!

Ewe and Me Fiber Studio will be CLOSED Friday, July 4 in observance of Independance Day. We will open at 12noon on Saturday, July 5.

This summer finds us coping with many issues. The environment being one of them. We have encouraged our customers to bring their own shopping bags in the past. And at this time we still ask you to do so, but we'd like you to think about producing your own. We have some great string bag patterns that work up quick. These bags can be tucked in your car, your knitting bag, or a pocket. Using your own reuseable bags for shopping will not only lighten your footprint on the earth, but may encourage those around you to do the same.Stop in and check-out our sample bags.

July brings us to the end of our first year of the Monthly Sock Club. The July Sock will be available on Wednesday, July 2. There will be no sock the month of August. We will start again in September. Those interested in being a part of the Sock Club need to register in order to be assured they have a sock kit waiting for them.

Have a safe and happy holiday! Keep Knitting!

Attention Knitters and Crocheters!

We are in need of chemo caps for cancer patients. Please consider taking some time to knit or crochet a hat for someone in need. Adult as well as children's sizes and men's and boys as well as styles for women and girls. Hats need to be knit from SOFT yarn and the pattern shouldn't have large holes to let in sun or wind. They should be machine washable and not crazy looking.Choose your favorite hat pattern or find one on the many "free pattern" websites, such as aboutknitting.com. Hats can be dropped off at Ewe and Me Fiber Studio, 37 S. Main St, Sandwich, Illinois.

Call us if you have any questions: 815-786-6051

Just Arrived!!

Our latest additions include more of that luscious camel yarn from Mongolia. Natural colors only. We've added Schoeller & Stahl Fortissima Socka Mitt Bamboo to our sock yarn collection. This is the yarn we featured for our January sock of the month. Avalable in Fair Isle patterns, 5 different colorways. We also received a large box of merino/bamboo sock yarn from Pagewood Farm. Great spring colors! It's been here two days and it's going fast!

March 1, 2008

It's that sock time of the month! I trust you've all finished knitting your little pink cables and you're trotting around in front of everyone, pleased as punch. If not, keep plugging away, you'll get there. One sock is better than none!

Spring is right around the corner (let's think positive) and Eweknitters Sock Club is getting you ready for some warm weather. This month we have Footies for the Family knit from Cascade Fixation. Fixation is a cotton yarn, 98.3%, with a pinch of elastic, 1.7%. That little bit of elastic goes a long way. These little footies have great stretch. Have fun with this selection.

Ewe Fiber Studio also has some discounts on selected yarns this month, as well as 50% off all purse hardware and handles. Stop in and check it out. We're anxiously awaiting a new shipment of camel yarn from Mongolia and our ever favorite Pagewood Farm Merino/Bamboo sock yarn in some very jazzy spring colors. Check back for an update.

January 1, 2008

I hope this post finds you all warm and snug knitting away! It's 2 degrees and the snow fell all day. All those hats, mittens and scarves that we labored over for weeks are being put to the test right now. And for the sock knitters out there, the January sock is here! This months yarn is Schoeller & Stahl Fortissima Socka Mitt Bamboo. Bamboo has been a big hit with all our sock knitters, so we're trying another bamboo yarn. The monochromatic colorway blends in with our snowy lanscape right now. But I guarantee the socks you knit will keep your piggies warm. As always, happy knitting!

November 1, 2007

Attention Eweknitters Sock Club Members!

Yes, the long awaited November sock is here!!!

What a brillant display this sock makes!

This handpainted 100% merino superwash wool is a Gypsy Girl Creation from Stonebarn Fibers.

November's color selection is called Iris. OK, that sounds a little like spring I will admit, but we all need a little color right now (it will stand out quite well at your turkey celebration!). This sock is knit in a 2x2 rib pattern, using size 2 needles. You just don't need much of a pattern with yarn like this.

The next surprise is that December's sock is available at the same time as Nov. I have chosen for December a charity project.Having this available in November will give everyone enough time to complete it. I feel that with all the time we take making beautiful knitted and crocheted items for ourselves, family and friends, that we can use a small amount of time and do something special for someone we don't know. December's sock is a Holiday Stocking knit in chunky weight yarn using size 10 1/2 needles. Each kit has enough yarn for the main color and a contrasting color. A bell is also included. Ewe and Me Fiber Studio will be donating these stockings to Safe Passage of Dekalb, Illinois. Safe Passage provides domestic violence services to the area. And these stockings will be distributed to the children and families they care for.You may purchase a double kit if you would like to make more than one. The stockings need to be turned into Ewe and me Fiber Studio by Tues., Dec. 17. Please take a little time (I made one of these socks in 4 hours!)to give someone else a little joy.

October 2, 2007

Eweknitters October Sock of the Month is here!!!!

October brings you sock yarn from Pagewood Farm. Fabulaous Fall is a beautiful blend of bamboo, merino, and nylon. This month's pattern was designed and written by our own Patty Turner. Patty's Favorite Toe-up Pattern is not your traditional toe-up. This one uses a different cast-on and the toe shaping is a breeze to get through. Patty is an avid knitter and yarn collector who likes to insulate her home with fiber(read that as, she has a REALLY BIG stash)! She teaches classes and helps out at the shop every so often, so you'll see her around.

Fall is settling in and it's a great time to relax and do some knitting and think about

all those socks you could be knitting for gifts!

Have fun!

September 11, 2007

Ewe and Me Fiber Studio encourages it's customers to bring in their own shopping bags. Most of our knitters carry their knitting bags with them and always seem to be able to find space for their yarn treasures. Carrying your own bag helps everyone. Our shop has to buy less bags and you the customer, doesn't have mountains of paper or plastic bags to deal with. Keep an extra cloth bag in your car or knitting bag. They fold nice and flat and don't take up much space.

Thank you for reusing!

September 10, 2007

THE HAT PROJECT

Compassionate Caps
*Attention all knitters and crocheters*

Ewe and Me Fiber Studio is proud to announce our first community project!   Knit or crochet a hat for someone undergoing chemotherapy.  Hair loss is one of the most devastating side effects for cancer patients undergoing this procedure.  These patients need the warmth and comfort of a soft hat.  Children and adult sizes are needed.  Use your favorite pattern, pick up a free pattern at Ewe and Me Fiber Studio or check out these websites for a multitude of different hat patterns:

When making a Compassionate Cap:

* use a soft yarn (cotton, cotton blends, acrylic, and acrylic blends)that is washable
* use a pattern that knits or crochets up solid - not a lace or open pattern that would expose the head
* label your handmade beauty with the size: child, adult, small, med. etc.

Please make at least one child or adult hat to be donated.  Your contribution will help restore dignity and self-confidence to a cancer patient.  Hats will be distributed to Midwest Center for Cancer & Blood in Sandwich, Illinois, as well as other regional centers for adults and children.

All donations should be dropped off at:
